THE BUSINESS LEAD
From our Managing Director Andrew Fenwick
Welcome to August, where has this year gone! Our team did a great job in my absence, earlier this year, while I recovered from shoulder surgery at home, returning early May.
Mark, Tim, Sarah and myself attend the Marinas 26 Conference on the Gold Coast in late May. This coincided with the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, which we also attended and enjoyed, along with the improved weather, which helped to draw good crowds over this 4-day event. Marinas 26 was a well-run event, hosting some 300 delegates from Australia and overseas. Topics covered a wide range of issues facing our industry and was a great opportunity for the team to learn and confront potential challenges ahead, while network with the many likeminded marine professionals, like us, who attended. Events like Marinas 26 are pivotal for our team to attend, so we can meet the challenges ahead and continue to provide the best possible boating experience for our clients. After the two full days spent inside, the third was a tour of numerous marine facilities and developments around the Gold Coast, which is always inspiring to see the amount of development in this region.

As we mention regularly, if you will require out of water servicing before Christmas please start to plan and make your booking early to avoid the rush, we experience every year in November and December. Enquires and bookings can be done by either phoning or use the “Enquire Now” tab, top right side on our website home page, this tab is a convenient way of booking in, as it can be done 24/7 to suit you.

It might be winter, but this can be an ideal time to get out on your boat and enjoy these fantastic waterways in peace. The bays that can normally be full of other vessels in the warmer months, will provide you, family and friends with an idyllic setting to relax or explore these pristine waters, with their natural surroundings. All this so close, that you don’t need to worry about using a lot of fuel to enjoy a day, or possible two, on your boat.
Due to unauthorized access afterhours of recreational fisherman, we are installing a gate at the bottom of the main access driveway. The gate will be open during the marina’s operational hours and closed after hours, requiring authorised persons and berthing clients access only. Further details will be made available soon.
We hope you enjoy this addition of Galley Gossip and look forward to seeing you when next down to go boating, cheers for now.
Andrew Fenwick

FROM THE MAINTENANCE DESK
As part of our ongoing infrastructure renewal program, several upgrade projects have been undertaken or commenced this year to keep Fenwicks Marina in top shape.
1. Resurfacing hardstand asphalt
With client boats weighing up to 50 tons, the asphalt on our hardstand takes some punishment and had areas of uneven, degrading surface. We have recently had that section resurfaced.

2. Marina access ramp
After many seasons of daily foot traffic, our access ramp was tired and splintered. We have now installed replacement hardwood timbers, providing a safe and slip-free pathway onto the marina.

3. Floating finger frames
The harsh marine environment causes corrosion and sun damage to the floating fingers that provide boatside access to some of our smaller berths. We periodically pull each one out, replace it, and rebuild the old finger ready for the next change-over.
4. Lift wharf
Where all the heavy lifting gets done, our lift wharf is being upgraded from aging timber treads to a sturdy, non-slip walk surface using glass-reinforced resin decking.
With lifting, next week our Straddle Carrier is undergoing maintenance and will be shut down Tuesday and back up Friday. We are fully booked for any movements next week due to this.

5. Increased holding capacity for recycled water
As part of our environmental commitment, we capture and process all water used on the hardstand through our industry-leading water treatment plant on site. This process delivers irrigation level clean water, which we hold in tanks to feed our pressure washers and hardstand cleaning (yellow) taps. We have recently doubled our holding capacity to enable recycled water to be used in all our cleaning operations, without the need to supplement with Sydney water.
WHEN VISITING FENWICKS MARINA
We are committed to maintaining a marina that is safe, comfortable and enjoyable to visit and work at. If you notice any maintenance issues that need attention while you're here, please advise us right away. If using a hose on the marina, please turn off the tap and de-pressurise by opening the nozzle before attempting to rewind back into the reel.
Regards,
Steve Lee
Maintenance Manager
MEET THE TEAM
Please join us in welcoming our two newest team members, David and Vanessa, who both joined Fenwicks Marina in April.
You’ll find David out in the yard Monday to Friday, and Vanessa at the front desk or on the phone on Wednesdays and Fridays.
We’re delighted to have them as part of the Fenwicks team, so if you see them around the marina, please say hello!

MARINA UPDATES
BREAKROOM UPDATE

Last year, we revamped the office for its 40th birthday, and it felt like the right time to give something back to the people who make our business what it is.
Our new staff breakroom opened in May! A space to relax, reset, and take a well-earned break from the hard work. Whether it’s enjoying the beautiful weather with the doors open or escaping into the air conditioning during the cold morning or soon to come Australian heat, we hope it’s a space our team can truly enjoy.
We’re incredibly grateful for our staff and everything they do, and we hope they enjoy this new space as much as we do.

CMO ACCREDITATION

This year at the Marinas26 Conference at the Marine Structures Tropical Gala dinner, 16 new Certified Members were anonnouced. Our Operations Manager Tim, was one of those. He achieved the Certified Marina Operator (CMO) qualification through the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and the Global Marina Institute.
The CMO is an internationally recognised marina industry certification that focuses on best-practice marina operations, safety, customer service, environmental management, and business management. It is designed for marina professionals responsible for the day-to-day operation of marinas, boatyards, and waterfront facilities.
Congratulations to Tim on this achievement and his ongoing commitment to maintaining high standards at Fenwicks Marina.

SAFETY REMINDERS ON THE WATER

NSW Maritime is hosting a free boating safety workshop on Dangar Island on Sunday 6 September @ 12noon
The workshop will consist of a 45minute presentation on all things boating safety with a local waterway overlay,
Followed by an inflatable lifejacket self-servicing demonstration whereby attendees are invited to bring their own personal inflatable lifejacket to work on with the guidance of Maritime officers.
[Note Maritime will not be servicing customers lifejackets on the day merely demonstrating/guiding]" - NSW Waterway Operations Officer

Safety should come first!
Remember always check the weather and swell prior to going out, ensure you have your lifejackets and boat is well maintained so you can enjoy the beautiful waterways around us.
Above is NSW Naviagtional Mark information to serve as a refresher for Chanel makers and Cardinal marks when you are traveling through the different waterways.

SAFETY REMINDERS ON THE MARINA

Please help us keep the marina safe and accessible by keeping these simple safety reminders in mind
Keep walkways clear When taking items down to your boat, especially when using a trolley, please ensure all items are placed on your vessel or as close to the edge of the berth as possible. This helps keep the gangways clear and allows safe passage.
Watch for leads and hoses Please keep an eye out for electrical leads, hoses or other items that may be running across the gangway. A cone is typically placed across the area to make others aware. Please take extra care when walking through these areas.
Please let us know if you see a hazard Our team carries out a morning and afternoon safety check of the marina, and staff are regularly walking through the site throughout the day. However, things can change quickly, so if you notice a trip hazard, obstruction, or anything else that could create a safety concern, please notify a member of staff immediately.
